Arun M Kumar is a seasoned global professional of 37 years, senior commercial diplomat having worked with Obama administration, former Silicon Valley entrepreneur and an author. He was born and grew up in Mavelikkara, Kerala. Arun’s parents were
Mr B. Madhavan Nair, who retired from the India Meteorological Department, and
Mrs Kamala Pandalai. They lived in Jawahar Nagar where Mr Madhavan Nair was the founding father of Prathibha Poshini, a school for underprivileged students in Trivandrum. Arun Kumar lives with Poornima, his wife of almost 40 years, in Mumbai. They have two sons: Ashvin and Vikram.
He did his schooling at Lawrence School, Lovedale and graduated in Physics from University of Kerala. After working for 5 years with Tata Administrative Services, Arun headed to MIT’s Sloan School of Management to earn his MBA in 1980. Arun is co-editor of “Kerala’s Economy: Crouching Tiger, Sacred Cows,” and the author of a book of poetry, “Plain Truths.
Arun currently serves as the Chairman and CEO, KPMG in India. He succeeds Richard Rekhy who retired in February, 2017.
Arun most recently served as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service in the Obama Administration. A former Silicon Valley entrepreneur. Alumnus of the Sloan School of Management, MIT. Member of advisory councils at Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
